How To Use A Ring Gage

Ring gages provide a go/no-go assessment of the specified dimensional tolerances or attributes of pins, shafts, or threaded studs. Ring gages are used for comparative gaging as well as for the checking, calibrating or setting of gages or other standards in a wide variety of industries, including machine tool, automotive, oil and gas exploration, and other metal working applications.

GO THREAD Ring GAGES

The go thread band gage checks the and then-called "mating size" of the external thread and screwing-on capability. In doing so, it checks the largest dimension of the external thread pitch diameter including certain form deviations in the thread, eastward.chiliad. pitch and thread profile angle deviations. It also checks whether the straight flank slice is long plenty, such that the curve on the external thread root does not extend also far into the profile flank. The root curve itself is not checked. The major bore is likewise non checked by this gage.

The go thread ring gage must be able to be screwed on by paw along the full length of the workpiece thread without force. The go thread ring gage is subject area to greater wear and should be checked at regular intervals with a wear check plug gage. It should be noted that the thread length is not less than 80% of the thread engagement length of the workpiece thread.

NO-GO THREAD Ring GAGES

The no-go thread band cuff is designed to bank check whether the actual pitch diameter of the workpiece external thread falls beneath the prescribed smallest size. The external thread major and pocket-size diameters are not tested here.

The no-go thread ring cuff has a thread length of at least three threads. The thread profile has a truncated crest. The no-go thread ring gage must be monitored regularly with a wear check plug gage.

The no-go thread ring gage must not be able to exist screwed onto the workpiece thread (from both sides) by paw for more than than 2 threads without force. The two revolutions are adamant past screwing off the ring gage.

SMOOTH RING GAGES FOR EXTERNAL THREAD MAJOR DIAMETERS

In that location are smooth go and no-go ring gages for checking thread major diameters. Every bit the major bore tin alter through thread cutting, an inspection is required after the thread has been completed. Generally speaking, a check of the external thread major diameter should be made before gaging the external thread pitch diameter.

It must be possible to push button the polish go ring cuff for the external thread major diameter along the entire thread length without whatsoever forcefulness. It must non be possible to button the smooth no-become ring gage for the external thread major diameter over the workpiece thread by more than than two pitches (2 x P) from the start of the thread.

SMOOTH RING GAGES FOR NON-THREADED SHAFTS

There are also smooth go and no-become ring gages used for gaging shaft diameters, especially for components that are easily deformed.

The smooth become ring gage checks the maximum shaft dimension including certain grade deviations, eastward.g. concentricity and cylindricity. The smooth, cylindrical go ring gage must be able to exist paired with the shaft over the entire length by hand without using forcefulness.

The smoothen no-go band gage checks whether the shaft has fallen below the prescribed minimum shaft dimension. Information technology must not be possible to pair a smoothen no-get ring cuff with the shaft without any forcefulness.
