Registration Guidelines
BLOODLINE REQUIREMENTS
In full general, to qualify for registration a Paint Horse must:
- Be at least 14hh high at v year former.
- Must take both sire and dam registered with the PHAA, Australian Quarter Horse Association or Thoroughbred (Australian Stud Book), or a combination of these Associations.
- Sire and Dam must exist PHAA approved and upgraded for Breeding, penalty fees apply if not.
Rule 102: Bloodline Requirements
(a) All horses foaled after July 31, 1977 must be sired past a stallion with a Regular Registry number in the PHAA; a 'Q' number in the AQHA; a page and book reference in the Australia Stud Book (Thoroughbred).
(b) (i) All horses foaled after July 31, 1979, must have both sire and dam registered in the PHAA Regular or Convenance Stock Registry, AQHA or ASB, or a combination of any two of these Associations. A Stallion Service Document (breeders certificate) must exist furnished with all applications.
(b) (ii) All horses foaled later on July 31, 1999 must take both sire and dam registered in the PHAA Regular, Pigment Bred or Convenance Stock Registries or with the AQHA or ASB or a combination of any two of these. A Stallion Service Certificate (breeders certificate) must exist furnished with all applications.
Notation: AQHA registered 'Q' and 'R' mares volition have the same status for registration of Paint foals. AJC registered mares that accept proven thoroughbred convenance for three (3) generations shall have the same status as stud book thoroughbred mares for registration requirements.
(c) All Appendix registered Quarter Horse mares foaled prior to August 1st 1990 shall have the aforementioned status for registration (of Paint foals) as 'R' and 'Q' mares.
(d)For all appendix registered quarter equus caballus mares foaled after July 31st 1990, provided they meet the bloodline requirement for two generations, will exist accustomed as function of the bloodline requirement.
(east)All 'A' numbered quarter horse mares, foaled subsequently July 31st 1995 which are past a 'Q' numbered horse out of a foundation mare, will simply exist accepted if the outcross is stud book thoroughbred.
(f)and (g) Gelding Amnesty - clauses deleted. Gelding Amnesty program discontinued equally from 1st August, 2012.
(h)Refer to Rule 115 concerning AQHA and ASB stallions.
(i)PHAA reserves the right to take any Paint, Paint Bred or Breeding Stock horse and record the transfer or lease of a PHAA registered horse into the registry when the breeding is proven to the satisfaction of the Association.
(j)Thoroughbred mares and stallions that are used for Paint Equus caballus breeding must be registered in the Australian Stud Volume records. Horses noted with a suffix of "ntb" will not be accepted until verification of thoroughbred but bloodlines is received from the Keeper of the Australian Stud Book.
(k)Equally from 1st August 2009, all 'A' numbered quarter horse stallions which are past a 'Q' numbered horse out of a foundation mare, volition but exist accepted if the outcross is stud book thoroughbred.
Paint Horse Characteristics
White markings outside the shaded area on this diagram are considered Pigment Horse characteristics.
Paint Horse Characteristics include:
- White on legs above the indicate of hock and heart of the articulatio genus.
- Glass, blueish or watch eyes.
- Apron face up.
- White on the jaws.
- Pink skin under white hair and/or a bluish zone between white hair and other colour nowadays.
- Ii-coloured mane and/or as characterised by the Tobiano blazon (excluding flaxen).
COLOUR REQUIREMENTS
A. What is a "Natural Paint Marking"?
For the purpose of this rule the term "Natural Pigment Marking" shall mean a predominant hair glaze colour and contrasting area of white hair which has underlying pink skin. The expanse of white hair must be such that information technology cannot exist covered by a 50mm circumvolve and the surface area of underlying pink skin must be such that it cannot exist covered past a 20mm circle. The marking can be anywhere on the horse behind reference line ane and above reference lines 2 & 3. In the event that a horse is predominately white, there must be a color in contrast.
Reference Lines
The reference lines mentioned above may be described equally follows:
Reference Line 1: From the base of the ear forward horizontally to the base of operations of the other ear; from the base of the ear past the outside corner of the centre to the corner of the mouth, from the corner of the mouth under the chin to the corner of the mouth.
Reference Line 2: A level line effectually the foreleg at the centre of the knee.
Reference Line three: A level line around the hindleg at the bespeak of the hock.
PAINT BRED REGISTRY
Any colt, filly, mare or stallion that meets the bloodline requirement but does not meet the minimal color requirement is all the same eligible to be registered. These horses would be registered every bit a "Solid" in the Paint Bred registry.
COAT Colour AND PATTERN TYPES
The Pigment Horse Association register horses based on phenotype, these are Overo, Tobiano, Tobero and Solid. Additional Coat Patterns are recognised and displayed on Registration Certifcates on proof of Genetic Testing, examples these are Splashed White, Sabino.
